Minimizing risks for consumers

Commerce increasingly involves more aspects to take into account and often these aspects lead to insecurity for consumers. So much so that many people are afraid of online commerce or services that they do not know. From the Consumer Union of Catalonia – UCC we want you to feel confident enough to know how to make all types of purchases, minimizing risks.

Online trade

Online commerce is already an option installed in our day to day, but even so, consumers still have many doubts about this system. It is important to know that in this type of purchase we will have a very important right: the right of withdrawal, which will allow us to return any product purchased within 14 days of receiving it.

Guarantee

We must know that all the products we purchase have a warranty. This means that if the product has defects we can claim them. The warranty will be 3 years for new products and 1 year for second-hand products (for those products purchased before 2022 it will be 2 years and 6 months respectively). Be careful, because not everything will fall within the warranty period: only those damages that are a consequence of some defect in the product, not due to simple wear and tear.

Unknown companies

Small businesses are also increasingly present in our consumer relationships and this does not mean that they are not trustworthy. We must take certain precautions when contracting with any company, whether large or small, which will help us have better guarantees when purchasing any product or service. We must have all the information available at our disposal in case we need it. In the case of online commerce we must always try to have a valid means of communication and that they serve us correctly, so that in the event of having a problem we can easily solve it. For physical establishments we can check if they are affiliated with the Arbitration Board of Arbitration or if they give us all the data we request.
