Health regulations
The food we buy both in supermarkets and in hospitality establishments must meet a series of minimums that guarantee optimal hygiene conditions for consumption. These minimum standards are reflected in regulations that establish the sanitary, preservation, and handling conditions of food products. If these standards are not met, food can become a vehicle for pathogens which, once ingested, may cause food poisoning, infections, or other illnesses resulting from spoiled products. It is essential for consumers to be aware of these risks and for establishments to comply with the regulations in order to prevent health issues.

			Correct labeling
One of the most important elements to ensure consumer safety is the proper labeling of food products. Labeling must provide complete and truthful information about ingredients, expiration date, storage conditions and other relevant data. Sometimes, labels can be poorly formulated or incomplete, which can be misleading and endanger the health of the consumer. It is essential that establishments respect current legislation and offer all the correct information to their customers. In addition, inadequate labeling can be indicative of mistreatment or an attempt to deceive the consumer.
Optimal conditions
To ensure food safety, food storage, handling and preparation conditions must be optimal at all times. If an establishment does not comply with the minimum hygiene and safety conditions, the food product it offers may be in poor condition, even if it appears fresh or well-preserved. Inadequate preservation, cross-contamination or lack of health controls can lead to risky situations for consumers. If you have doubts about whether an establishment complies with food safety standards or suspect that a product may be in poor condition, it is important to act responsibly and inform yourself about the conditions of the place.
If you believe that your rights as a consumer may be in danger, you have suffered any of these practices or any other abusive treatment, the Consumers’ Union of Catalonia – UCC can help you. Do not hesitate to contact us to resolve any queries!
